Some time ago I believe someone posted in the comments asking me if I had any of the Tanner Instant Service Discs.....I said I didn't....

Until Now!!!


Funny enough, about a month ago, I came across one in a thrift store for $1. I bet no one else knew what the hell it was. Serendipity is a fun thing when it happens. it occasionally does with me. It's seen better days, and a little NR software cleaning certainly helped, but it's not perfect, it's just....right!

Campy as hell (I still can't believe stations would pay for this stuff) and in all it's aural glory, we bring you a Tanner Instant Service disc.

Sammy Reed, a watcher of this humble blog, wrote to me back in September with a relevant submission to the Jetsam Cause. he writes:

" I don't know if you have Creative Sales Service 5311, but I'd like to submit mp3's and label scans from my copy to the Jetsam if you don't have it. This has orchestrated news themes using the same 4-note motif as side 2 of 5321, which you have here. As I say in the comment I just put up, the "School / Teen News Intro" has to be heard to be believed - and you probably still won't. Please let me know what you think."

Ohhhhh...Alright, guess no more Blockbuster nights!

No, I haven't abandoned this blog, just sporadically posting exhibits when I see fit. I want it to continue, and it will continue, as I find material or the urge strikes me. You can centainly enjoy the previous material between the posts.

I see in the US that technology finally deals the final blow to a brick and mortar video store staple and probably the last national holdout to the wave of movies available digitally, Blockbuster Video. Here in Canada, Blockbuster closed up shop a couple years ago, but finally the last remnants stateside have decided to close. Shame really, but netflix and even not so legal downloads are a lot easier then hauling your ass off the couch and into a video store to grab a DVD. Technology advancements and convenience win out. Who knew we would be nostalgic to the famous "be kind, rewind" slogan encouraging you to rewind you VHS and betamax tapes so some poor video store schlub wouldn't ahve to do it when it came back, and hey, those mistracking nightmares with our VCR. Everything is too perfect these days. I almost miss lines running through the screen. The key word is ALMOST. I don't think it's enough to want to open a small nostalgic video store and rent VHS tapes and VCR's to people who are nostalgic, but it's a fun thought now isn't it?


Still, may Blockbuster RIP, and here's a jingle you can play if you get nostalgic. "Spend the Night Out In" from 1995.

Sooner or later is assuming a lot......

From 1981, we have two full sing jingles for General Tire. some basic catchy lyrics assuming you'll buy general tires at some point because it sticks in your mind when you actually go shopping for tires (instead of looking for how cheap you can do it like the rest of us).

The first jingle here adds some really lame, clunky lyrics that come off like someone at the ad agency told them they had to add to the jingle, while the second one works far better, getting the basic message across "sooner or later you'll own generals" the funny thing is, it's almost too basic, because there really isn't a actual good reason reason WHY you should own generals. That's probably why the "donuts" are used...to add announcer copy to the spot.
